Birthday Gifts - Choosing the perfect gift

Every child loves their birthday. They love the party, the cake and the candles, but most of all they love the birthday gifts. No celebration would be complete without the birthday gifts. The only trouble lies in choosing the perfect one.

Birthday Gifts for Ages 1 to 3

When choosing birthday gifts for ages one to three, the issue of “girl toys” and “boy toys” is pretty unimportant. Children at this age like colorful, noisy toys with lots of different textures. Books are always a great choice. Young children love looking at the pictures, and can get a head start on reading skills by hearing the rhythm and sound of a story.

Textile toys such as blocks, puzzles and shapes make great gifts and encourage learning. They are also the kind of birthday gifts that parents really appreciate.

Birthday Gifts for Ages 4 to 6

Children at this age love toys where they can really use their imagination. Birthday gifts such as Barbie dolls, action figures, Godzilla or dinosaur toys, Winnie the Pooh, Strawberry Shortcake dolls or other toys that take a lot of imagination are great choices. Little boys love toy trucks, dinosaurs and sports at this age. Little girls love dolls of all kinds, doll houses, dress up clothes and “just like mommy” types of toys, such as dishes for a tea party.

Birthday Gifts for Ages 7 to 10

Toys to share with friends are great birthday gifts for this age group. Most of their playtime is spent with friends, and the more interactive the better. For girls, sets of dolls such as Barbie, along with all the accessories like the Dream House, Cruise Ship, Jeep, clothes and accessories are something they’ll really appreciate. For boys, remote control cars, action figures such as G.I. Joe and Godzilla, and building sets like Legos will provide them hours of fun.

Birthday Gifts for Ages 11-12

Many children are going through a transition at this age. They’re preparing to enter their teen years and outgrowing many of the things of their youth, but they also still enjoy playing with a large variety of toys. Birthday gifts need to be a geared a little more toward their interests. For example, if they love playing soccer, something soccer related would be perfect. If they dream of becoming a ballerina, perhaps a ballerina collectors Barbie would be a great gift.

Choosing the perfect birthday gift doesn’t need to be difficult. Just take a few moments to think about what interests the child has. Or, if all else fails, browse the internet with them and see what kind of toys they pick out.
