A Brief History In Dice Games

The history of Dice Games dates back to 1500 BC within the Egyptian New Kingdom.  Early Dice were made of Bone, Ivory Wood, or Stone.  They very much resembled the same look as what we use today, but with different number of spots on each side.  Archaeologists often find ancient dice due to there size and the fact that they were not very valuable.  People often used the dice to gamble for money and various things.  The most common games that were played by the Romans were Dice Games, and were also primarily used for gambling as well.  In ancient times the throw of a dice was not considered to be luck but the outcome was controlled by the Gods.  It was a way of choosing rulers, dividing inheritances, and a method of prediction.

Today there are many popular Dice Games that have been created over the years.  Amazon and Kbtoys offers an excellent selection of games for people of all ages.  Some of their selections include:

  • Liar's Dice Games - is a classic bluffing game, where each player brings there poker face to the table.  Each player gets their own dice with Aces, Jacks, Kings and Queens.
  • Sequence Dice Games - roll the dice and place a chip on a corresponding number on the board game.  If you roll a 2 or a 12 you will get another turn.  Rolling a 10 allows you to remove an opponents chip.  If you roll an 11 you get to place your chip on any number.  Getting 5 chips in a row designates you the winner.  Recommended for children 7 years and up.
  • Goose Egg Dice Games - great way to teach your children multiplication.  It uses four jumbo ten-sided dice, with each player representing a different number, using that numbered card (2-9).  The spaces on the card are multiples of the cards number, and each player must multiply the numbers of there dice roll by there assigned card number.  You win by rolling all the multiples of your number in two 30 second rounds, or get egged out of the game by rolling too many goose eggs.

You can also try some electronic Dice Games that are currently available for game boy.  Yu-Gi-Oh Dungeon Dice Monsters is an electronic game based on the animated series of the same name.  It is essentially a sophisticated board game, with all the features that fans of the series have come to love.  Includes role-playing, card-collecting, dungeon exploration, and strategic monster deployment.  It also has virtual dice rolling to add to the element of unpredictability.
