Indulging the Imagination with Doll Clothes
Sure we love dolls. They are our friends, companions and confidants. But what
would any doll be without doll clothes? Doll Clothes bring out the personality of
every little girl's favorite doll.
We love to let our imaginations run wild when it comes to dressing dolls. With
doll clothes we can transform a doll into whatever we want her to be – princess,
fairy, ballerina, or fashion queen.
Doll clothes are a reflection of the times we live in. We love to dress our
favorite doll in the very clothes we wish we could wear.
Through the years doll clothes have gone through significant changes. Many early
dolls were made to resemble adults, not children, and were dressed in the same
clothes an adult would wear. When dolls resembling babies and children were finally
introduced, children’s style clothing followed.
People have always loved dressing dolls. In 1905 Bleuette was introduced. She
was manufactured to exact specifications so that clothing patterns could be made for
her specific measurements. Patterns for her clothes were made an were an instant hit.
Finally there were patterns for doll clothes that were sure to be a perfect fit. Even
today Bleuette and her clothes and patterns continue to be popular with collectors.
Another fun tend is matching doll clothes and children’s clothes. What fun a
young girl can have by dressing her doll in the same adorable dress she’s wearing.
Period clothing is another popular type of doll clothing. These
doll clothes provide authentic details from nearly any time period or country.
Certain doll clothes are quite popular with collectors, such as designer, vintage and antique
styles. Collections such as
Skipper’s wardrobe and some Barbie clothes are also sought after by collectors.
Doll clothes have always been a huge part of the joy of dolls. Barbie’s immense
popularity is due in large part to her wonderful array of clothing. Similarly, the
Bratz dolls are a hit because of their fresh, funky clothes that strike a chord
with a younger generation.
Much of the appeal of doll clothes is the fantasy and role play they allow. We
may not be able to dress up like fairy princesses, but there’s certainly nothing
wrong with dressing our dolls that way. A little girl who dreams of one day
becoming a police woman can dress her doll for the part.
Doll clothes will always have an important role in play and collectibles. After
all, who but a doll could we dress up with no place to go?
