Getting Started With Gas Powered Rc Cars
Gas powered rc cars are the most superior remote control
vehicles and, by far provide the ultimate experience in remote
control racing. They provide a real life feel to this fun and
exciting hobby. The smell of the fuel, the sound of the motor,
as well as the superior speeds that these vehicles can reach,
provide a real life racing atmosphere. Getting started can
feel a little intimidating for the first time buyer, but with a
little knowledge you can get started in no time. Its a good
idea to first get acquainted with the various parts of gas powered rc cars. Some of the many terms to get familiar with
include: a 2-channel radio system, transmitter, an on-board
receiver, servos, glow plug ignitor, nitro fuel, and the nitro
starter kits available.
The 2-channel radio system for gas powered rc cars are made up of
three components: the transmitter, on-board receiver, and the
servos. Basically the transmitter is held in your hands, and
controls the speed and the various directions that you want the
vehicle to go in. The transmitter comes in two styles: the
pistol grip, and the two-stick. The common choice of
transmitter is the pistol grip model, but the choice is entirely up
to your preferences. Next is the on-board receiver which is
battery-powered. They are somewhat different then the
receivers in electric cars, which can be powered off the main
battery. The nitro rc cars require additional batteries to power the
receiver. The main purpose of the receiver is to receive radio
signals from the transmitter, and then send those signals to the
servos.
The servos in gas powered rc cars are similar to the electric
remote control cars and trucks. They are basically mechanical
pieces that attach to the receiver, which in turn control the
direction and speed of the rc vehicle. They control the
steering in both electric and nitro cars by means of a little
electric motor that rotates a gear attached to what is called a
servo arm. When the radio control sends the signals to the
receiver it then sends the appropriate current to the motor in the
servo to make it move forwards and backwards. In Nitro cars
the servos is also required to control the throttle/brake linkage.
The engines in gas powered rc cars can also go by the name glow
plug engines (glow plug ignitors). These engines contain glow
plugs which are heated up in order to fire the fuel and make the
engine run. They are then removed once the engine is up and
running. Nitro rc cars run on nitromethane fuel that is mixed
up with oil. There are basically two ways to start most nitro
rc cars. First by using a glow plug ignitor as was mentioned
above, or by using an electric starter to start the remote control
vehicle. Electric starters are similar to lawn mower
starters, and contains a pull start function. When first
purchasing an nitro car, make sure to check and see if the electric
starter is included with your car. These starters can make getting
your car up and running a lot easier.
