Lego Mindstorms – An Evolution In Legos Building Blocks

It has taken almost 15 years to create Lego Mindstorms. The idea has manifested by a collaboration between the Massachusetts Institute Of Technology (MIT) and Lego. An MIT research scientist named Fred Martin helped developed the microprocessor technology that is used in Mindstorms. Basically the ideal was to place a computer inside a Lego brick. No need to worry, you do not need a computer science degree in order to figure out how to use Mindstorms. Any average boy or girl will not only have hours of fun playing with Mindstorms but they are also an excellent educational toy that they can learn from.

Lego Mindstorms is the first robotics lab that can be purchased by anyone. If you are looking for affordable educational boys toys, then have a look at these amazing bricks of wonder. Lego building blocks have been around for years and have many variations of these plastic snappable and stackable plastic bricks. They are used to build space ships, cars, trains, buildings, cities and anything that the mind can imagine.

Now Lego has added another dimension to these building blocks of imagination. Mindstorms integrates a computerized brick, sensors, motors and a set of software bricks that can be put together on a computer screen. They are then transmitted to the intelligent Lego brick by an infrared beam.

What Do You Get In A Box Of Mindstorms

Lego Mindstorms is packaged very well, from the computer interface to each physical component. It comes packaged in a large box that contains 718 Lego pieces. This includes the RCX programmable brick, a CD ROM that contains the Mindstorm software, an infrared transmitter for sending a program to your Mindstorm robots, two motors, two touch sensors, a light sensor, an in-depth builder’s guide, and an assortment of Lego Blocks, gears, wheels, and connectors.

Lego Mindstorm also comes with a detailed training session and thorough instructions outlining the concepts of logic and design which are described thoroughly and illustrated in detail.
