Many beginners start their first rc hobby with remote control cars or rc trucks.  It is a good place to start because many people will find it easier to control a remote control vehicle that is on the ground then in the sky.  R/C cars are much simpler then there flying counterparts such as the vast amount of remote control airplanes out there today.  The most popular type of rc cars is the off-road buggy.  These cars come in 1/10 scale and are either 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive that can reach speeds between 15-30 mph.  These vehicles usually have lower ground clearances, slick tires, and aerodynamic bodies.  These cars are either electric powered or gas powered.   Electric cars use a rechargeable NiCd battery pack for power, and gas cars are powered by a small engine that uses a special glow fuel.

An rc hobby such as remote control cars or planes may come in different models.  You need to decide on whether to purchase a kit or a RTR (Ready To Run) model.  The versions that come in kit form need to be preassembled by the user.  There are many advantages to purchasing this format.  A kit may be less expensive to buy then one that is ready to go.  Secondly a kit may offer you a better understanding of how your model works, which in the end may cost you less in repairs.  And thirdly it can be much more fun and enjoyable trying to piece together you new car or truck.

This rc hobby also offers a RTF (Ready To Run) model.  It is great for first time users, and those who just want to get that car on the road, or that plane in the air.  Most of them are ready to run right out of the box, but others may require you to install the receiver in the body of the vehicle.  You can find a wide variety of RTR electric and gas powered remote control cars and trucks on the market no matter what type of vehicle you are after.  These version tend to be a little bit more expensive then their kit counterparts.
