Enter The World Of Competitive Scrabble
Scrabble is a timeless word game that was invented by an American
architect named Alfred Mosher Butts during the Great Depression.
He studied the front page of the New York Times and came up with the
tile distribution. He had calculated the number of occurrences
of vowels and consonants and how many times they appeared within the
English language. He used checker boards and pasted blueprints
of the game onto the board. The tiles were pasted on balsa
wood and cut to the size of the squares on the board. The
original name was Lexico, and later called Criss-Cross Words, and in
1948 it was evenutally name Scrabble. It was very popular in
1950 and sold in the Macy stores. Eventually the trademark was
sold to Selchow and Righter giving them exclusive rights to the
brand merchandise. Coleco purchased Selchow and Righter in
1986 and finally in 1989 the game was purchased by Hasbro.
There are many homes who own this enduring and challenging word
game. After 50 years this popular board game has undergone a
face lift. You can now purchase the Scrabble Deluxe edition of
this time honored game. It has a swivel base that allows the
board to turn so players don't have to work upside down. Also
a plastic grid helps to keep each tile in line, and the tiles can be
stored in a very handy bag when not in use. The object of the
game is still the same where two to four players battle it out to
attain high scoring words from seven little letters.
You can enter the future with the Scrabble Express Handheld
edition. It is an electronic handheld version of the classic
word game. Excellent for those long plane or train rides when
there's nothing else to do. There are four games, nine skill
levels, and it also allows for either solo or two players options.
When you increase the computers IQ level it uses harder then normal
words. Also comes with sound that can be turned off if you want.
How about taking the game to the next level with the Super Scrabble
Board Game. The classic game has been updated to quadruple
point squares, a larger playing board, and twice the amount of
lettered tiles that gives you the chance to create words that were
not possible in the original game.
