Ty Beanie Babies - The World’s Most Loved Plush Toy

It’s a fact, we love Ty Beanie Babies. The first of their kind when they were first introduced in 1993, these simple but adorable plush toys have captured our hearts. Although they started out with just nine characters, there are now hundreds of fun characters being made today. Cute, soft, poseable and affordable, it’s easy to see why Ty Beanie Babies have become so popular.

When the first Ty Beanie Babies were shown at the World Toy Fair in New York City in 1993, the critics were skeptical and even dubbed them “road kill.” But what do the critics know? In 1996 the phenomenon struck full force, and everyone wanted a beanie. Avid collectors snapped up all they could get, and the original nine characters became the most sought after.

Who were these original nine Ty Beanie Babies that everyone wanted? They included Legs the Frog, Squealer the Pig, Brownie the Bear, Flash the Dolphin, Splash the Whale, Patti the Platypus, Chocolate the Moose, Spot the Dog and Pinchers the Lobster. Long since retired, these original nine are still highly sought after by collectors, especially if they have the original hang tags. Many don’t, since they were given to children to play with before they became collector’s items.

Since the days of the original nine, there have been many new and exciting characters added to the collection. Some are “descendents” of the original Ty Beanie Babies, such as Moosletoe the Christmas moose, and some are entirely new animals. There are character beanies such as Garfield, Odie, and Spongebob Squarepants, and politically-minded beanies like Right the Elephant.

A large collection of teddy bears has also been added to the Ty Beanie Babies collection. There are beanie bears for every occasion and a variety of causes. Just as there’s a Holiday Barbie, there’s a holiday beanie bear that begs to be added to your collection. Bears for charities, such as Cure the Bear and ChariTee the Bear are a few of the special editions in the beanie bear collection. A special nod was even given to the popularity of trading beanies at auction with Bidder the bear, who features an Ebay logo.

Ty Beanie Babies are still going strong and new characters are being added all the time. Their huge variety, imaginative characters, and adorable looks promise to keep them popular and loved for many years to come.
