Wooden Blocks – Toys That Enhance Child Development

It is a common agreement amongst many child-development specialists that one of the single most toys that enhances creativity are wooden blocks. Creative playthings are a necessity when it comes to raising any child and cannot be overlooked by any means. The many skills that a child develops when playing with wood blocks are numerous. In addition to having fun, children will learn basic development skills such as differentiating between various shapes and sizes as well as creative skills. Infants and babies will also develop hand muscles as they try and hold the different pieces within their small hands. Children will also learn creative skills as they try and make tall buildings and other structures with the different sets of blocks.

A trusted name in the world of toy manufacturers is BRIO. They currently make a set of 50 wooden blocks made of natural beechwood. The blocks have smoothly sanded surfaces and rounded corners for safety. The blocks come in a variety of sizes such as basic cubes, triangles, half-circles, pillars, arches, and rectangles. They can be combined together to create various structures such as buildings, small cities, castles, or even doll houses.

The construction building blocks come in different sizes. The cubes are the smallest blocks and are 1.25 inches square. The arches are 6 inches long and are the largest of the wooden blocks. Each wood block is designed in incremental proportions. If you take three cubes they line up nicely to the same length as one rectangle. Also you can get one pillar by stacking up three rectangles to the same height.

This set of wood blocks is very well designed which makes them very educational. When your toddler plays with these related but different sized wooden blocks, they will be taught important skills such as: sorting, matching, balancing, grouping and spatial relations. Wooden Blocks are one of the most traditional toys that have been passed down from generation to generation and will continue to do so for years to come.

Creative play is very important to any childhood.  These wooden blocks have been time tested as one of the foundation learning toys.
