Word Games are an excellent tool for teaching your child reading
skills
Educational learning using word games can be a fun way for any
child to learn. Playing with word games can direct a child's
attention away from the fact that they are learning how to read, and
direct their attention on play. Basically they are learning to
read without even knowing it. They are excellent tools for
advanced or hesitant readers alike. They provide an excellent
source in developing a child's mind and concentration skills, and
provide a method for them to remember specific details.
There are many benefits of word games to be found. They
cost next to nothing and can be played anywhere from family outings
to long distance travel or shopping trips. Given a choice most
kids would rather be playing a game over reading a book or some
structured lesson in a classroom. Homeschoolers and parents
can easily help turn learning to read into fun by spending some time
daily with your child and getting them to solve some excellent mind
games.
In choosing board games, look for ones that emphasize word games
and letters within them. They will not only have a great time
and enjoy hours of fun, but will become proficient in spelling and
reading comprehension. Excellent choices of board games
include:
- Scrabble
- Boogle
- Up Words
- Outburst Junior
- Pictionary Junior
- Alpha-Bug Soup Word Game
Scrabble is one of the leaders in word games. It comes in
different types and versions from junior scrabble to computerized
editions. These excellent board games can be found in one out
of every 3 homes in America. There are tournaments and clubs
throughout Canada and the USA. Believe it or not this
game has only been around for a little over 50 years.
